Marco Antonio, or more widely known as “Flaco”, is a well respected field biologist in Sinaloa. He has been from one end of his native State to the other studying and recording birdlife for various institutions including Pronatura Noroeste, for whom he is presently working. In 2001 he, along with Paul Beckman (Director of Sendero Mexico) and Patricio Robles Gil (Director of Unidos Para La Conservacion), presented a proposal to the National Commission for the use and knowledge of Biodiversity (CONABIO) which called for the creation of the Tufted Jay Preserve. He has written numerous publications including “The first registered sighting of the Spotted Rail (Pardirralus maculatus) in Sinaloa, México (Huitzil: Vol. 7, No. 2, 2006). Marco Antonio’s goal is to gain a greater understanding of the bird species which inhabit Sinaloa so that strategies can be developed to promote the protection and conservation of these species and their habitat. He is currently finishing his Master’s degree in Ensenada, Baja California.
